THE NIGERIAN POLICEMAN

THE NIGERIAN POLICE

I really wonder what good the Nigerian government do the citizen of Nigeria by releasing the so-called Nigerian Police into the public every other year. My greatest fair is that are they coming to help the citizens or to molest the citizen? Even with our nascent democracy an average Nigerian sees the police as a treat to his or her existence. It will only take someone who has falling into their dirty, soil hands to understand this.

Statistics shows that 90% of the Nigerian citizenry do not respect the police and will only talk bad and little about them. And yet I wonder who are those that get registered, admitted and graduated from the
Police academy.

This profession is a dignifying one in other countries around the world, but it is a profession used to scare our children when they misbehave or refuse to stop crying in the country called “THE GAINT OF AFRICA”.

I wonder why will a policeman not pay his bus fare and again wait at a check point with guns and whips to extort N20 (twenty Naira), N50 (fifty Naira) and so on, from the same bus driver they refuse to pay bus fair.

Talking of the policeman, what is the job of the Nigerian police?
In response to this, they constitution only gives them the right to maintain peace and order in the society. They have rights to arrest with a statement or warranty of arrest. But on the contrary the Nigerian police will arrest private and public driver for reasons of which is not there job, leaving out the job they signed and made an oath for. For a better understanding

That is absolutely shocking, and unacceptable. I sincerely hope change comes about, but I know it won't happen unless something drastic and positive takes force. I'm sorry Nigerian democracy is in need of such basic improvement. I'm glad you are able to bring this to our (tig users and readers) attention, if only to increase our understanding of the situations much of the world faces. It reminds me that there is much change that is needed, which will not come about through anyone's efforts in any conventional profession.

I am very fortunate that Canada has a very well maintained police force, for the most part, and our democratic values pervade almost every aspect of our lives.
